PM Modi Calls Hyderabad "Bhagyanagar", Sparks Name Change Buzz

The prime minister, the legendary freedom warrior Sardar Patel, first used the phrase "Ek Bharat" in Bhagyanagar.

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who went to Hyderabad for the big BJP meet, referred to the Telangana capital as Bhagyanagar during his address to the delegates from across the country.

The prime minister, the legendary freedom warrior Sardar Patel, first used the phrase "Ek Bharat" in Bhagyanagar.

The PM said, "Hyderabad is Bhagyanagar which has significance for all of us. The cornerstone of a united India was preserved by Sardar Patel, and it is now up to the BJP to carry it further in Hyderabad, "BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad made a statement citing the Prime Minister.

The RSS, the ideological centre of the BJP, as well as various other BJP officials, have been calling for the renaming of Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal stated, "When the BJP comes to power in the state, the chief minister will decide this along with the cabinet colleagues," when asked if Hyderabad's name would be changed to Bhagyanagar.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Minister and Chief Minister KCR's son, KTR, hit back at the BJP.

The BJP's decision to choose Hyderabad for the meeting is said to be its most direct indication that the state is at the top of its list for expansion in areas where it is still relatively weak.

This is only the fourth time the party has held its major national meeting outside of Delhi since taking office at the centre of government in 2014. It had previously hosted meetings in Bengaluru in 2015, Kerala in 2016, and Odisha in 2017.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, urged voters to support the BJP "to change Hyderabad into Bhagyanagar" when he campaigned for BJP candidates in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election in 2020.
