Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi changed his social media DP national flag on Tuesday and also urged the people of the country to do the same. The move has come as a part of the PM’s 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign.
Taking the Twitter PM wrote, "It is a special 2nd August today! At a time when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, our nation is all set for #HarGharTiranga, a collective movement to celebrate our Tricolour."
"I have changed the DP on my social media pages and urge you all to do the same," he added.
Later, on the occasion of the great Pingali Venkayya's birthday, the Prime Minister paid homage to him, saying "He made the sacrifices necessary to provide our country with the Tricolor, of which we are extremely proud. May we continue to work for national growth while drawing encouragement and strength from the Tricolor."
The country's residents were invited to use the word "tiranga" as their profile picture on social media between August 2 and August 15 after Prime Minister Modi declared last week that the "Har Ghar Tiranga" initiative will take place from August 13 to 15.
The tricolour may now be displayed in the open and on certain homes or structures throughout the day and night according to a government amendment to the Indian Flag Code.
In addition to cotton, wool, silk, and khadi, the Flag Code of India was already changed in December of last year to permit the use of polyester for hand-spun, hand-woven, and machine-made flags.
Notably, the national flag may be flown or displayed on any day or event by a person, a private organisation, or a school. There is no restriction on timing of flag display.
