PM Modi picks up litter at Delhi's new underground tunnel in support of Swachh Bharat

PM Modi picked up garbage with his bare hands at the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor in Delhi's freshly opened subterranean tunnel.

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in keeping with the Swachh Bharat Mission, picked up rubbish in a freshly opened underground tunnel in Delhi as part of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor on Sunday.

PM Modi examines the newly opened tunnel and cleans up an empty water bottle and other debris with his bare hands as he walks along, according to a video released by news agency ANI. The tunnel is now open to the general public.

The prime minister expressed his displeasure with reports of people depositing garbage along the Char Dham Yatra route during his monthly Mann ki Baat radio speech in May and urged pilgrims not to litter at pilgrimage sites.

PM Modi opened the main tunnel and five underpasses of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor project on Sunday, which is an important part of the rebuilding of Pragati Maidan.

The 1.6-kilometer tunnel, which will be Delhi's first, will allow commuters from east Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad to bypass traffic jams on ITO, Mathura Road, and Bhairon Marg on their way to India Gate and other central Delhi locations.

The Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor was created at about Rs 920 crore, with the central government funding the entire project.

It also aims to make access to the new world-class exhibition and conference center being built at Pragati Maidan as easy as possible for exhibitors and visitors to participate in the events.
