As India prepares to celebrate Diwali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun a
frantic schedule of trips across numerous states. On Friday morning, the prime
minister was greeted by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to the
state known for its sacred sites, a day after he was in Gujarat. PM Modi was
seen participating in morning rites at the famed Kedarnath Dham shortly after
his arrival. He performed devotion at the shrine while dressed in the
traditional Himachali attire of Chola Dora.
Following the rituals, Modi will
unveil the Kedarnath ropeway project. Following the launch, he would assess the
status of several development initiatives. He also plans to visit Badrinath and
start a ropeway project in Mana village. While Kedarnath and Badrinath are
prominent Hindu sanctuaries, Hemkund Sahib, the region's Sikh shrine, is also
widely regarded.
According to an official release,
the ropeway in Kedarnath, which will be around 9.7 kilometers long, would connect
Gaurikund to Kedarnath, cutting travel time between the two places from over
seven hours to approximately 30 minutes.
Meanwhile,
the 12.4-kilometer-long Hemkund ropeway would connect Govindghat and Hemkund
Sahib. It will cut travel time from more than a day to around 45 minutes. It
will also link Ghangaria, which serves as the entrance to Valley of Flowers
National Park.
The ropeways,
which were built at a cost of roughly 2,430 crores, are an environmentally
friendly means of travel that will provide a safe, secure, and stable mode of
transportation.
