Digital Desk: A mob destroyed the Assam Rifles Camp in Manipur's Kamjong district on Saturday. The mob accused the Assam Rifles personnel of harassment and restrictions on the transportation of timber.
The issue of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's image being removed from government advertisements had also prompted a response from the State Congress.
Digital
Desk: Karnataka Police lathicharged a group of people who attempted
to take down banners honouring Veer Savarkar and replace them with images of
Tipu Sultan in the Shivamogga district on Monday. Lathicharge was followed
by the imposition of Section 144 in the district until further orders.
In a
formal statement, the local police said that section 144 of the CrPC was
implemented in Shivamogga when a group of Tipu Sultan supporters attempted to
take down Savarkar flags and replace them with Tipu Sultan ones in the city's
Ameer Ahmad circle.
Tensions
in the city increased after the light lathicharge, and the police are now
conducting surveillance with extreme caution.
Three
people were allegedly detained by the Karnataka Police earlier today for
tearing up freedom warrior images that had been displayed in honour of the
nation's 75th Independence Day.
Puneeth
Kerehalli, the leader of the Rastra Rakshana Pade organisation, was also detained
for allegedly destroying the Tipu Sultan flex.
DK
Shivakumar, the head of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress, visited the site and
said, "Someone is attempting to disturb the state. They are unable to
process the "Freedom March" of Congress ".
The
issue of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's image being removed from government
advertisements had also prompted a response from the State Congress.
Former
prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru was not mentioned in the state government's
advertisement for the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign, as sought by DK
Shivakumar yesterday. He also asked the Karnataka chief minister to apologise.
It
may be mentioned that the Former chief minister and prominent Congressman
Siddaramaiah remarked, "It is unacceptable to disparage independence
fighter Jawaharlal Nehru in a commercial funded by taxes paid by ordinary
people. The state's chief minister needs to apologise to the populace for
disparaging Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru."
