Preparations for the demolition of Noida Twin Towers: A checklist for nearby residents

The two 40-story towers are located on the Noida-Greater Noida expressway and are a part of Supertech's Emerald Court project.

Digital Desk: The Noida Twin Towers, India's tallest structure, will be demolished tomorrow, August 28, following the Supreme Court's order.

At least 3,700 kilos of explosives would be used to destroy them. The explosive wire connections, which have been installed on every floor, will be completed within the next two to three days. The task will be completed in 9 seconds.

Due to major code violations, the twin towers are being dismantled. The Supreme Court ordered Supertech to demolish the buildings at its own expense under the direction of the Noida Authority after finding "nefarious collusion" between the two parties.

The two 40-storey towers that are located on the Noida-Greater Noida expressway and are a part of Supertech's Emerald Court project have approximately 900 apartments spread across an area of roughly 7.5 lakh square feet.

The occupants of the twin towers' nearby buildings are concerned that the implosion would fracture their glass windows and even lead to structural problems with the buildings.

Many residents of the buildings close to Supertech's twin pinnacles have opted to travel abroad, while others will move into housing on Sunday when the structures are scheduled to be demolished using explosives.

Arvind Kumar, the Commissioner for Infrastructure and Industrial Development, even stated that demolition preparations had been completed. He also issued guidelines following a site visit by CM Yogi Adityanath for review.

Take a glance at the Supertech demolition preparatory work:

    1) The Noida Police Department prohibited the use of drones in the city from August 26 to August 31, citing security concerns following the demolition of Supertech's illegal towers.

Furthermore, the authorities have stated that on August 28, one nautical mile of air space around the twin tower demolition site will be temporarily unavailable for flights.

    2) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the preparations for the destruction of the Supertech Twin Towers and directed the management to ensure that the process does not endanger the people living nearby.

    3) The chief minister also directed officials to address the environmental issues raised by the demolition.

    4) Water tankers, sprinklers, and smog guns will be used to clear the dust created by the destruction. After the demolition, sweeping machines will clean up the dust that has settled on the road.

    5) Residents living near the building will be evacuated at 7 a.m. before the building's demolition. In addition, alternate parking arrangements and garden protection will be provided.

    6) During demolition, traffic will be halted near the Twin Towers. Moreover, the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway will be closed for half an hour for safety reasons.

    7) The Noida health department is preparing for any untoward incidents that may occur as a result of the demolition of India's tallest structures. In addition to the government hospitals, three privately run hospitals are preparing to accommodate patients in an emergency.

    8) Six ambulances will be stationed on-site, complete with medical personnel and medications. Reportedly, safe houses will be established at JP Hospital, Felix Hospital, and Yatharth Hospital, as well as the District Hospital in Sector 30, Noida. Felix Hospital has set aside approximately 50 beds for the demolition day.

On demolition day, nearby residents should follow this checklist-

    1) During the blast, close the windows and doors as tightly as possible.

    2) If there is no rain or strong winds, dust particles can linger in the air for days.
Dust can also enter your home, so it is best to clean all surfaces at least once a day, if not multiple times.

    3) If dust enters the house, remove it with a wet mop or vacuum cleaner. After the demolition, wash all the linen and curtains, and roll up and store the carpets for a few days.

    4) Plug in the air purifier. Turn on the air conditioners, but clean the filters before and after the blast.

    5) For people who take medications, keep all current medications on hand. Individuals with asthma, COPD, or other lung-related diseases who use inhalers can take a few puffs for a few days after the demolition.

    6) When pollution levels are high, some people may get sore throats and itching in their eyes, nose, and skin. Seniors may experience lethargy and feverish symptoms.

    7) Some people may experience generalized aches and pains throughout their bodies. Patients taking inhalers may experience chest congestion, increased cough, runny nose, nasal congestion, sore throat, and other symptoms.

    8) Maintain proper hydration. Eat fresh fruits and make sure to thoroughly wash them before eating.

The explosives for the demolition of the Noida twin towers have been placed in approximately 9,600 holes drilled into the tower columns and will be detonated sequentially with a millisecond gap.
