Digital Desk: A special judge at a CBI court in Asansol claimed that he had been blackmailed with a false NDPS case against members of his family if he did not succeed in getting the release of TMC leader Anubrata Mondal, who is being held in CBI custody in connection with a cattle smuggling case.
The judge, Rajesh Chakraborty, claimed that he received the threat in the form of a letter from one Bappa Chatterjee, claiming that if Mondal was not placed on bail, his family would be implicated in an NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) case with serious allegations of commercial quantity.
The judge attached the letter he received from Chatterjee to his complaint and asked the district judge in Paschim Bardhaman to take note of the situation. He requested that the case be heard before the Calcutta High Court.
The alleged threat letter, which was attached to judge Chakraborty's complaint, stated, "You are hereby requested to release the bail of TMC leader Anubrata Mondal immediately."
"Otherwise, your family members will be subject to an NDPS commercial quantity case. This is just so you know," the threat letter read and carried Chatterjee's signature.
Meanwhile, Amit Malviya, chairman of the BJP IT cell, immediately took note of the development and posted the judge's complaint letter on social media.
Taking to Twitter, Malviya shared, "CBI Judge in Asansol gets a threat letter, asking him to give bail to criminal Anubroto Mondal, failing which his entire family would be framed in the NDPS case. The judge has written to the District Judge and the High Court. Mamata Banerjee has been defending Mondal even after his arrest."
