RG Kar Rape & Murder Case: Verdict on January 18, CBI Seeks Death Penalty

Digital Desk: A court in Kolkata's Sealdah is ready to deliver the verdict on the gruesome RG Kar Medical College & Hospital rape & murder case on Saturday (January 18). The much-awaited verdict in the brutal rape & murder case of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Hospital will be announced almost 5 months later.

Meanwhile, the late postgraduate trainee's parents complained that the investigation was not done properly. They also alleged that the verdict will be delivered only against Sanjay Roy but other criminals are still roaming free.

The victim's mother in an interview with a news agency said, "Sanjay Roy is guilty and tomorrow's verdict will be against him. But what about other criminals who are still not caught? I can see them roaming freely. I have seen them loitering in the hospital. So, the investigation is
    half-done."

The victim's mother mentioned that they will fight against all the criminals who were involved in their daughter's rape and murder case. The postgraduate trainee was killed on August 9, 2024, while studying in the seminar hall of a government hospital. The brutal case sparked nationwide
outrage and protests across the country, which led the West Bengal High Court
to transfer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Various cases of corruption were also filed against the then principal of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital Sandip Ghosh, which led to his transfer from the hospital.

A civic volunteer named Sanjay Roy was arrested on August 10 for involvement in the rape and murder case of the junior doctor. The trial of the case was concluded on January 9 by the additional district and session judge of the Sealdah court.
