Suspended BJP leader Seema Patra, accused of torturing domestic help, arrested
The allegations that Seema Patra had harassed her domestic worker in Jharkhand were brought to the attention of the National Commission for Women.

Digital Desk: The suspended BJP leader, Seema Patra, who is accused of torturing her tribal domestic help, was arrested by Ranchi police early on Wednesday. According to police sources, Seema Patra will appear in court and later be sent to jail.

Following Seema Patra's fled because of fear of police arrest, Ranchi's Argora police initiated a search operation for her. It is said that Sunita, a domestic helper, was made to clean the toilet with her tongue.

Sunita has numerous wounds all over her body. She claims that Seema Patra used to use hot objects to hurt her.

At the Argoda police station in Ranchi, a case was filed against Patra, the wife of former IAS officer Maheshwar Patra, under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the SC-ST Act, 1989. On Tuesday, the court used Section 164 to record Sunita's testimony. After Seema Patra was charged with mistreating her domestic help, the Jharkhand BJP suspended her.

Seema Patra was caught by Ranchi police as she attempted to flee the city on the road after they had conducted many raids to arrest her.

Seema Patra is the state convener of the ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ campaign. She was a part of the BJP's women's wing and is Maheshwar Patra's wife, an ex-IAS officer.

Ayushman Patra, Seema Patra's son tried to protect the maid when he was working at the state secretariat, and he told his friend Vivek Baske about the incidents at home. Sunita was saved with his assistance after she, at last, told Vivek about her tragedy.

The allegations that Seema Patra had harassed her domestic worker in Jharkhand were brought to the attention of the National Commission for Women.

NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said in a statement that the panel has written to the DGP of Jharkhand requesting that the accused be taken into custody if the charges are proven to be genuine.

Rekha Sharma has stated, "The Commission has also requested for a fair and timely probe on the matter."
