TIME magazine lists Ahmedabad & Kerala as the world's top destinations to visit for 2022

Digital Desk: TIME magazine has named Ahmedabad and Kerala as the "50 remarkable spots to discover" in its list of the world's finest places for 2022.

"The optimism that understanding and human connection can be gained through travel is as persistent as the obstacles of living in 2022. So, with a large portion of the worldwide population now immunised against COVID-19, world travellers are once again hitting the road. The hospitality sector has reopened and is eager to welcome them and revitalise nearby communities securely," TIME said on Tuesday.

As per reports, Ahmedabad, the first city in India to be recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, "boasts both ancient landmarks and contemporary innovations that make it a mecca for cultural tourism, from the serene Gandhi Ashram that is situated on 36 acres along the Sabarmati River to Navratri, a vibrant nine-day celebration heralded as the longest dance festival in the world." The article added that Ahmedabad's Gujarat Science City, a "sprawling entertainment centre and theme park," unveiled three significant attractions in 2017 including a 20-acre nature park that would teach people about the local flora.

"There is also a brand-new interactive robot gallery that highlights robotics innovation and even a massive Transformer model," it added.

"The largest aquarium in India is now located in Science City's new aquarium, which features aquatic species from all over the world," it said.

TIME stated in a profile that Kerala, a state on the southwest coast of India, is "one of India's most beautiful states.  With breathtaking beaches, verdant backwaters, temples, and palaces, it is no wonder that it is referred to as God's own land."

"This year, Kerala is promoting campervan tourism in India to spark a brand-new pas de deux of exploration and lodging. In the picturesque hill town of Vagamon, the state's first caravan park, Karavan Meadows, opened, it said.

"Over 1,000 campers have already started to travel the area, providing a novel and distinctive way to experience Kerala's beaches and lush plantations. "In the wake of the state's success with houseboat cruising, caravans are expected to follow suit with a similar promise of sustainable tourism," it added.

As per the article, TIME asked its global network of correspondents and contributors for suggestions of places to include on this list of the World's Greatest Places, the best places to visit this year, "with an eye toward those offering new and interesting experiences."

The list also includes Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates; Park City, Utah; Seoul; the Great Barrier Reef in Australia; The Arctic; Valencia, Spain; Trans Bhutan Trail in Bhutan; the International Space Station; Bogota; Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia; Istanbul and Kigali, Rwanda.
