Uddhav Thackeray expels new Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde from Shiv Sena
Eknath Shinde's government in Maharashtra will face a Vote of Confidence on July 4, to prove its majority in the State Assembly.

Digital Desk: Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray expelled newly sworn-in CM Eknath Shinde from the post of Shiv Sena leader citing anti-party activities.

A revolt inside the Shiv Sena, led by Shinde, who stayed in Guwahati and had the support of other MLAs, was the cause of the political crisis in Maharashtra. Notably, on Wednesday, Uddhav Thackeray stepped down as CM.

Earlier on Friday, Thackeray criticised the BJP for electing rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde to the role of Chief Minister. Thackeray asserted that if the former ally had agreed to this earlier, there wouldn't have been a Maha Vikas Aghadi in the state.

After the 2019 Assembly elections in the state, the Shiv Sena and the BJP split up because the former wanted 2.5 years of Chief Ministership for each party during the five-year term, while the latter had not agreed. Later, in order to form the government, the Shiv Sena made an alliance with the opposition NCP and Congress.

Meanwhile, discussing the swearing-in ceremony of Shinde, who was selected as the Chief Minister, and Devendra Fadnavis, who was sworn in as his deputy, Thackeray said, "Regarding what happened yesterday, I already told Amit Shah that a Shiv Sena CM should be in place for 2.5 years (during the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance). Maha Vikas Aghadi would not have existed if they had carried out this step earlier."

The Shiv Sena leader attacked Shinde, claiming that the new chief minister is not a member of his party, as the BJP had planned. He said that he had discussed the distribution of the Chief Ministerial seats for 2.5 years each with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 2019.

"I had expressed my concerns to Amit Shah about the way the government was formed and the appointment of a purported Shiv Sena member as chief minister. This could have been done with respect. The Shiv Sena was officially on your side (at that time). Eknath Shinde is not a Shiv Sena CM," Thackeray said.

It may be mentioned that Eknath Shinde's government in Maharashtra will face a Vote of Confidence on July 4, to prove its majority in the State Assembly.

The Special Session of the Maharashtra Assembly will be held on July 3 and 4.
