Yasin Malik lodged in jail No 7 at Tihar, kept under strict observation

Malik was also ordered by the court to file an affidavit detailing all of his sources of income and assets.

Digital Desk: Yasin Malik, a hardcore Kashmiri separatist leader, former militant, and Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), has been sentenced to life imprisonment in a terror funding case and will be kept in Tihar Jail, Delhi.

In fact, within some moments of the court's decision, Tihar Jail officials began making plans to house the high-profile prisoner, with top officials convening for a meeting to discuss security, monitor his movements, and keep a close check on him.

According to Tihar Jail sources, "the jail administration has decided to retain the terror offender under extreme security."

Yasin Malik had been living alone in a cell in Tihar Prison's Jail No. 7, but now that the punishment has been handed down, the jail authorities have announced Yasin Malik will be extensively monitored using CCTVs, sources quoted.

It claimed that it was unclear whether he would be moved to another ward or jail.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has requested a death sentence on Yasin Malik, who admitted all of the accusations against him.

Earlier, the court stated that Yasin Malik allegedly set up an intricate structure and method worldwide to gather finances for terrorist and other criminal actions in Jammu and Kashmir in the name of "freedom struggle."

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court sentenced Yasin Malik to life imprisonment for violating section 121 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 17 (raising funds for terror act) of UAPA. Moreover, the court also fined over Rs 10 lakh on  Yasin Malik.

"Yasin Malik has been sentenced to two life sentences and ten years of rigorous jail for ten offenses and a Rs 10 lakh fine, all of which will run concurrently," said Advocate Umesh Sharma.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had demanded the death penalty for Malik during the hearing earlier in the day. On May 19, Special Judge Praveen Singh found Malik guilty and ordered the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to analyze Malik's financial status to determine the amount of fine that might be imposed. Malik was also ordered by the court to file an affidavit detailing all of his sources of income and assets.
