    1555 injured, 28 missing in ethnic violence since last May: Manipur CM

    Digital Desk: In the northeastern state of Manipur, ethnic violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities erupted on May 3 last year. The violence has resulted in 28 individuals going missing and 1555 sustaining injuries, as disclosed by Chief Minister N Biren Singh. 


    Among the injured, 1429 are civilians, while 88 are from the state police, and 28 belong to central security forces. Tragically, 26 of the missing persons have been declared dead, with investigations ongoing for the remaining two, the chief minister informed.


    The violence has led to the displacement of more than 50,000 people, who are currently residing in relief camps across different parts of the state. The government has been providing financial assistance to the injured and support for reconstructing destroyed houses.


    According to him, the union and state government began paying 114 victims ex-gratia, and the verification procedure for the other victims was in progress.  Earlier the state government had announced ex-gratia payment of ₹10 lakh each.
