4 leaders from Northeast likely to join Modi Cabinet, check list here

Digital Desk: In a significant development, Sarbananda Sonowal is on the verge of securing a coveted spot in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet. The Assam Member of Parliament is poised to meet the Prime Minister at his residence on 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, at 11:30 PM, marking a pivotal moment in his political career.

Additionally, reports suggest that Biplab Deb, the former Chief Minister of Tripura and current Rajya Sabha MP, is likely to join the Council of Ministers. Kiren Rijiju, representing Arunachal Pradesh, has also received an invitation for a tea meeting at the Prime Minister's House, signaling potential cabinet considerations. Arunachal East MP Tapir Gao is another strong contender for a cabinet position, underlining the Northeast's growing influence in national politics.

The momentum for Sonowal's inclusion in the cabinet surged following his resounding victory in the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency, prompting congratulations from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sonowal's victory further solidifies his stature within the Modi cabinet, positioning him as a key player in regional and national affairs.

Despite setbacks in Nagaland, Manipur, and Meghalaya, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured significant victories across the Northeast. The BJP and its ally UPPL clinched 11 seats in Assam, both seats in Arunachal Pradesh, and emerged victorious in Tripura. The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), in alliance with the BJP, secured the sole Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim, while the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) claimed the lone seat in Mizoram.
