Digital Desk: As many as five active members of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), a Maoist militant group were detained by the security forces in Manipur on charges of extortion and possession of arms on Friday.
Search operations were carried out by officials in four districts: Kakching, Bishnupur, Imphal East, and Imphal West; these places were considered vulnerable and on the outskirts.
The five KCP military task force cadres were apprehended during the operations after it was determined that they had weapons, ammo, and other war-like stores.
Taking to X, Manipur Police reported the arrest and said that 48 live rounds of ammunition, three 7.62 mm ammunition charger clips, a pistol holster, three pairs of fighting dresses with a scarf, four pairs of jungle boots, and two belts were found during the search.
Additionally, a Hyundai i20 car without license plates, five cell phones, and Rs 2,090 in cash were seized from the suspects.
Taking to X, Manipur Police wrote, "Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Bishnupur, Kakching, Imphal West and Imphal East districts. (i)During an operation at Imphal East District on 27.10.2023, 05 five active members of the outfit KCP who were involved in extortion activities from public and various establishments were arrested and recovered 01 (one) arm, 48 ammunitions, 3 nos. of 7.62 Ammunition charger clip, 5 nos. of Mobile Phone handsets, 1 no. of Pistol Holster, 3 pairs of fighting dress with 1 scarf, 4 pairs of Jungle Boot shoes, 1 of BP Jacket, 1 Jungle hat, 2 nos. of wallets, 2 nos. of belts, a sum of Rs. 2090/- and 1car without registration plate from their possession."
