National Peoples’ Party(NPP) and Congress have two MLAs each with them in a 60-MLA assembly of Arunachal Pradesh. At an event at the party's headquarters, Senior Congress MLA and former Union Minister Ninong Ering, along with Congress leader Wanglin Lowangdong, joined the BJP. From the NPP, Mutchu Mithi and Gokar Basar formally became members of the BJP at the same event.

Arunachal Pradesh will see elections for its legislative assembly simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections this year. The Bharatiya Janata Party won the most recent election in April 2019, and Pema Khandu became the chief minister of Arunachal.
