Digital Desk: In a significant move to empower the youth of the North-Eastern states, the Government of India has invited eligible candidates to apply for scholarships worth ₹80,000 annually. These scholarships are aimed at financially assisting students from the North-Eastern region, helping them pursue higher education and achieve their academic dreams.
Under this initiative, the National Scholarship Portal will be awarding approximately 10,000 scholarships, providing students with ₹8,000 per month for ten months. The scholarships are available to students belonging to the economically weaker sections of the North-Eastern region. Selection for these scholarships is solely based on state-wise merit from among the candidates who apply through the National Scholarship Portal of the Government of India, provided they have a valid Domicile Certificate from any state in the Northeastern region.
To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must have successfully completed their Class 12 or equivalent examinations from a school within the Northeastern region under a recognized board of education. Furthermore, the scholarship is exclusively open to students pursuing undergraduate degree programs as specified and notified by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It's important to note that only students admitted to undergraduate programs through the 'Regular/Full Time' mode are eligible, and those enrolled in open, distance, correspondence, private, or part-time programs do not qualify for the scholarship.
Additionally, the scholarship is applicable only for the first undergraduate degree, and individuals who already possess a degree are ineligible to apply. To ensure that the scholarships reach those who need them the most, candidates' parents' annual income must not exceed ₹4.5 lakh.
Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications through the National Scholarship Portal until December 31, 2023. This initiative is a crucial step towards enhancing access to higher education for the North-Eastern youth, fostering their growth, and contributing to the development of the region.
