Digital Desk: The disqualification of 10 Kuki MLAs from the hill districts who are demanding a separate administration is under active consideration at the highest political level, said Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday.

On the sidelines of an event in Imphal, Singh who is also the leader of the BJP, the main coalition partner in the state's BJP-led government made the statement to reporters.

Singh claimed that the topic is being actively considered and that he is in constant touch with central BJP leaders, including the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister.

The 10 Kuki MLAs, including those from the ruling BJP, have demanded a separate government because they claim it failed to protect them from the sectarian violence that broke out between non-tribal and tribal communities on May 3, 2023.

The 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly has ten Kuki MLAs.
These Kuki legislators, two of whom are ministers, receive monthly wages and benefits from the state legislature even though they were absent during the recently concluded assembly session.

Meanwhile, various political parties are calling for the removal of these ineffective Kuki MLAs from office as soon as possible, including the Janata Dal (United), the local Manipur People's Party (MPP), Congress and the National People's Party (NPP).
