Lalduhoma, the leader of the ZPM, has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Mizoram...
Digital Desk: On December 8, 2023, Witness a historic moment as Lalduhoma takes the oath of office, ushering the state into a new era under the leadership of the Zoram People's Movement.
This event marked a historic break from the state's long-standing domination of the Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Congress party.
The ZPM, which had only been registered as a political party four years before in 2019, won a stunning victory in the Mizoram Assembly elections, securing 27 of the 40 available seats.
Along with the chief minister, seven other ministers took the oath of office and were enrolled into the cabinet of the ZPM-led administration.
K Sapdanga, Vanlalhlana, C Lalsawivunga, Lalthasanga, Vanlalthlana, PC Vanlalruata, and Lalrinpuii are the ministers inducted into the administration led by ZPM.
Lalduhoma, 73, brings a wide background to the post, including earlier employment as an Indian Police employment (IPS) officer and a spell as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's security in-charge.
Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati presided over the swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the Raj Bhavan complex in Aizawl, with other ZPM leaders also taking their oaths as ministers.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also extended his well wishes to the new CM of Mizoram on his X handle-
This leadership transition marks the beginning of a new chapter in Mizoram's political history, as the ZPM has positioned itself as a legitimate regional party, contesting the MNF's claims to Mizo nationalism.
Lalduhoma's ascendancy to the Chief Ministership is not only a personal success, but also a reflection of the ZPM's quick rise in Mizoram's political arena, pledging a 'new system' and ending the MNF-Congress duopoly of 36 years.
