Digital desk: Unidentified individuals opened fire at Lord Jagannath's chariot, locally known as Konung Kang in Shree Shree Govindajee temple in Manipur's Imphal East district on Friday. Notably, there were no casualties reported, and the construction of the chariot for the upcoming Ratha Yatra proceeded without interruption.
The temple board organizing the Ratha Yatra affirmed that the procession will proceed as planned on July 8 at 1:30 pm, despite the unsettling attack. The incident, which occurred around 12:30 am, caused tension in the area despite the presence of the Border Security Force (BSF) and state forces.
Police have tightened security in the vicinity and are actively investigating the incident. Authorities have yet to identify the perpetrators behind the attack, which took place despite the presence of central security forces at the site.
Amid ongoing unrest in Manipur, the decision to go ahead with the Ratha Yatra was supported by key figures including Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh.
