Manipur: Churachandpur incident pre-planned to destroy all documents, claims CM Singh

Digital Desk: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced the initiation of a magisterial inquiry into the arm-snatching incident in Chingarel Tejpur, Imphal East district, and the violence in Churachandpur in response to recent unrest in Manipur. 

Addressing the media at his secretariat, Chief Minister Biren Singh condemned the tragic loss of lives and property, underscoring the government's commitment to addressing the situation with the utmost seriousness.

The incidents, which resulted in casualties and widespread damage, prompted immediate action from the state government. Following the arm-snatching incident in Chingarel, seven police personnel were promptly suspended, pending further investigation. Similarly, in response to evidence implicating a police constable in the Churachandpur violence, swift action was taken to suspend the individual involved.

Chief Minister Biren Singh underscored the government's commitment to conducting thorough investigations into both incidents through magisterial inquiries. These inquiries aim to provide clarity and accountability, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

Moreover, Chief Minister Biren Singh highlighted the role of social media in exacerbating tensions and inciting violence. The recent tragic events in Churachandpur district, he suggested, might be linked to inflammatory posts shared online.

Firm action has been taken against organizations or individuals attempting to intimidate or threaten government personnel, including the lodging of FIRs against offending parties.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Biren Singh expressed concerns regarding the potential destruction of documents in the Churachandpur district office. Amidst apprehensions of a pre-planned attempt to sabotage official records, the government has taken preemptive measures to safeguard essential documents, including maintaining master copies off-site.
