Digital Desk: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced the initiation of a magisterial inquiry into the arm-snatching incident in Chingarel Tejpur, Imphal East district, and the violence in Churachandpur in response to recent unrest in Manipur.

Addressing the media at his secretariat, Chief Minister Biren Singh condemned the tragic loss of lives and property, underscoring the government's commitment to addressing the situation with the utmost seriousness.

The incidents, which resulted in casualties and widespread damage, prompted immediate action from the state government. Following the arm-snatching incident in Chingarel, seven police personnel were promptly suspended, pending further investigation. Similarly, in response to evidence implicating a police constable in the Churachandpur violence, swift action was taken to suspend the individual involved.

Chief Minister Biren Singh underscored the government's commitment to conducting thorough investigations into both incidents through magisterial inquiries. These inquiries aim to provide clarity and accountability, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

Moreover, Chief Minister Biren Singh highlighted the role of social media in exacerbating tensions and inciting violence. Without explicitly naming individuals, he indicated that legal action would be taken against those found to have incited violence through social media platforms. The recent tragic events in Churachandpur district, he suggested, might be linked to inflammatory posts shared online.

The Chief Minister also addressed the issue of threats against government officials, emphasizing the state's commitment to protecting the safety and security of its citizens. Firm action has been taken against organizations or individuals attempting to intimidate or threaten government personnel, including the lodging of FIRs against offending parties.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Biren Singh expressed concerns regarding the potential destruction of documents in the Churachandpur district office. Amidst apprehensions of a pre-planned attempt to sabotage official records, the government has taken preemptive measures to safeguard essential documents, including maintaining master copies off-site.

The recent social media posts by political figures, including the BJP MLA of Saikot assembly constituency, have also drawn attention to the simmering tensions and grievances within the state. While acknowledging concerns raised by various stakeholders, Chief Minister Biren Singh reaffirmed the government's commitment to upholding justice and maintaining law and order.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh's announcement of magisterial inquiries and decisive actions underscores the government's proactive approach in addressing recent incidents of unrest in Manipur. With a focus on accountability, transparency, and the rule of law, the government aims to restore peace and stability to the affected regions, fostering a climate of trust and cooperation among all communities.
