Manipur: Congress leader Hemochandra Singh resigns from party
Hemochandra stated that the Congress is "completely in the sinking stage" and that he no longer has any thoughts for the party.

Digital Desk: Former Manipur minister Irengbam Hemochandra Singh resigned from his primary post in the Indian National Congress on Sunday. He also renounced his other roles with the Pradesh Congress Committee.

Resigning from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Hemochandra Singh told K Meghachandra that he was losing faith in the party hierarchy.

He declared he had "no intention" of joining any other political organization. "I just quit the party to free myself and to be able to speak freely while speaking for my people", stated the former MLA.

At a press conference held at the Manipur Press Club, he revealed his decision and the announcement that he was submitting his resignation.

Hemochandra stated that the Congress is "completely in the sinking stage" and that he no longer has any thoughts for the party.

"I have decided to leave the party, and I do it with heavy heart. The party has little space for expansion and no clear direction. I have been a party member for a very long time. I no longer have faith," Hemochandra continued.

During the period when the Congress was the Manipur government, Hemochandra served as the Speaker of the Manipur Assembly, a minister, and an MLA for the Singjamei Assembly constituency.

In addition, he denied rumors that he had resigned from the party for not receiving a party ticket to run in the next Lok Sabha elections.

He expressed his dissatisfaction with the party's high command, stating that the state's residents were still suffering from the violence that broke out between the Kuki and Meitei populations last year and that this was not the time for elections or politics.
