Government to address the ongoing crucial matter of Manipur during the winter session of parliament...
Digital Desk: The three Manipur MPs, RK Ranjan Singh, Lorho S. Pfoze, and Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, received a memorandum from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee pleading with the government to address the ongoing crucial matter of Manipur during the winter session of parliament.
A sudden violence erupted on May 3, 2023, that started in Kangvai in the Churachandpur district after an unexpected outburst of violence following a solidarity march organized by the All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM).
Over 60,000 people have been forced to flee from their homes and are staying in rescue camps, while over 200 people have lost their lives or gone missing.
Several firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition were reported to have been taken or stolen from police stations and battalions.
"Even after seven long, torturous, and painful months, there is no sign of restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur. Due to these happenings, Manipur is lagging in every aspect of development and the griefs and miseries of the people are manifold", mentioned the vice president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Hareshwar Goshwami in the memorandum as submitted to the MPs.
The vice-president of the state Congress further stated that immediate action must be taken to restore peace and normality to Manipur, with a particular focus on the rehabilitation and restoration of all displaced people with appropriate security and the payment of appropriate compensation.
