Digital Desk: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced a significant initiative aimed at supporting women aged 40 and above in the state. Speaking to news agency ANI, CM Singh stated that the government would provide an annual financial assistance of Rs 6,000 to women falling within this age group. The aid, amounting to Rs 500 per month, is intended to assist these women in meeting their family's financial needs.

CM Singh emphasized that despite various schemes being introduced by the state government, a segment of women, particularly those aged between 40 and 60, has not received adequate benefits. "We are going to provide Rs 500 to women aged 40 and above. Many schemes have been launched by the state government, but part of the women's section has been left out mainly from the 40 years to the 60 years, even though we are covering 40 years and above," he said.

The Chief Minister highlighted the need for ensuring that each eligible woman receives a minimum of Rs 6,000 per annum, emphasizing the importance of supporting them in managing their families effectively.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Supreme Court rejected a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the establishment of a fresh panel to investigate the causes of the crisis in Manipur. The petitioners urged the court to direct the central government to intervene and restore law and order in the state, which has been affected by ethnic violence.

However, the bench, consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, indicated that a committee, chaired by Justice (retired) Gita Mittal, was already addressing the issues related to the violence and other aspects. The court suggested that the petitioners approach the existing committee with their concerns, stating that broad and general reliefs might not yield effective results at this stage.
