Digital Desk: A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) headed by Special Director Ajay Bhatnagar will arrive in Imphal in the violence-hit Manipur on Wednesday to look into the "kidnapping and killing" of two students.
According to reports, a specialized CBI team including Bhatnagar are expected to arrive in the state later today on a special flight. The squad will also include Joint Director Ghanshyam Upadhyay, who is camping in Imphal.
According to reports, the CBI squad would include officers with experience in technical surveillance, crime scene reconstruction, questioning, and special crimes.
N Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, earlier on Tuesday notified the public of the CBI team's visit to the state and reassured the populace that the state and state governments are closely cooperating to apprehend those responsible for the horrific murder.
Taking to X, CM wrote, “To further expedite this crucial investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director, along with a specialized team, will be arriving in Imphal tomorrow morning on a special flight. Their presence underscores the commitment of our authorities to swiftly resolve this matter. I have been constantly in touch with Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”
It should be noted that on Monday, just a few days after mobile internet was restored in Manipur, horrific images of the bodies of two Meitei students who went missing in July near Bishnupur, surfaced on social media.
The two missing students, Phijam Hemjit (20) and Hijam Linthoingambi (17) were killed, the Manipur government confirmed on Tuesday.
