Digital Desk: In the northeastern Indian state of Manipur, the town of Moreh finds itself engulfed in a fresh wave of violence. On January 2, a shocking incident unfolded as gunmen targeted vehicles carrying police commandos en route to Moreh near the Myanmar border.

The assailants deployed RPGs, leaving four police commandos and one BSF personnel injured, necessitating their urgent airlift to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal.

Notably, the violence escalated as armed miscreants brazenly opened fire at the chopper tasked with airlifting the injured security personnel. The audacious attack on a medical evacuation mission underscores the precarious security situation in the region.

Reports indicate that in addition to the violent incident, internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Moreh voiced their outrage by protesting against the armed assault on security personnel.
The injured victims identified as Maibam Thoiba, Chabungbam Herojit, Kamei Gaohemlung, Mangsatabam Premkumar, and Rabindra Singh highlight the human toll of the conflict.

This eruption of violence follows an unsettling incident on January 1, where Manipur experienced a tumultuous start to the new year.

In Lilong Chingjao, armed miscreants, purportedly disguised in police uniforms and traveling in four vehicles, indiscriminately opened fire on civilians. The result was tragic, with four individuals losing their lives and fourteen others sustaining injuries, several of whom are reported to be in critical condition.

The incidents on consecutive days underscore the volatile nature of the security landscape in Manipur. Authorities face the challenging task of quelling the violence, ensuring the safety of civilians, and maintaining law and order in the region. The situation demands swift and effective measures to address the root causes and prevent further bloodshed.
