Digital Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a significant step in addressing cases of ethnic violence in Manipur, as it filed two separate chargesheets against five accused. These chargesheets were presented at the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Guwahati, Assam.

In response to the Manipur government's request, the CBI initiated the investigation in August 2023. The cases involve the alleged abduction of a minor girl and subsequent suspicions of the victims' deaths. The genesis of the matter lies in a complaint filed by the parents of the missing girl, who claimed she was forcibly taken by a minor boy against her will.

Simultaneously, the father of the accused minor boy lodged a complaint at Lamphel Police Station, Imphal West District, in July 2023, stating his son had not returned home since leaving on a bike on July 6, 2023.

The investigation revealed that on that fateful morning, the boy picked up the minor girl from her tuition class on his bike, leading them towards Bishnupur and Thas View Point Area on old Cachar Road. Reports suggest that they were intercepted, held captive, and forcibly transported in a vehicle to a secret location, raising suspicions of their deaths.

As a result of the inquiry, five individuals suspected of involvement in these cases have been apprehended and are currently in legal custody. The investigation continues, shedding light on the complex interrelation of events leading to ethnic violence in Manipur.
