Digital Desk: India's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officials have informed that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will probe the Manipur viral video case of two Kuki Zo women who were stripped and paraded naked by a mob of Meitei men.

The official also stated that the government is seeking a trial outside of Manipur. The official stated that the trial would be held in a court in neighboring Assam.

A 26-second video from Manipur, in which two women were stripped naked, attacked, and paraded by a mob, has sparked outrage across the country.

The incident allegedly happened on May 4, a day after ethnic riots erupted in Manipur.

After a video of the incident went viral, police reacted by arresting seven people, including the main accused.

Reportedly, the mobile phone from which the viral video of Manipur women was taken has been found, and the individual who shot the video has also been apprehended.

Officials further stated that the Union Home Ministry is in contact with both the Meitei and Kuki groups and that efforts to restore normalcy in Manipur are in the advanced stages.

Over 160 people have died as a result of the nearly three-month-long ethnic violence in Manipur. A video of the May 4 incident involving the two women went viral on social media earlier this month, causing widespread outrage.

In order to put the Modi government on the defensive and force the Prime Minister to address the issue that has dogged the Monsoon session of Parliament since it began on July 20, the opposition filed a no-confidence resolution in the Lok Sabha.

Speaker Om Birla has accepted the motion, and a discussion on the no-confidence motion is expected next week.

The violence in Manipur erupted on May 3 following a rally organized by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) in protest of the proposed inclusion of people from the Meitei group on the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs).
