Digital Desk: In a significant setback, Mizo National Front (MNF) leader and Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has lost the Aizawl East 1 seat.

Lalthansanga, the opponent MNF candidate, won the election with a total of 8,472 votes while Zoramthanga lost the election by 2,108 votes.

The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has dealt a severe blow to the MNF, coinciding with Zoramthanga's loss in the state elections. ZPM is in a strong position to establish the next government in Mizoram, with a big lead in 26 seats, while the MNF is now leading in just 10 seats.

Sources claim that even though ZPM looks to have secured a sizable majority, the party has requested all of its elected MLAs to present in the state capital of Aizawl tomorrow. As per reports, the party wants to create a government itself, without cooperation from any other parties.

In Mizoram, more than 80% of the 8.57 lakh voters in the state cast ballots. There were 174 contenders running for the 40-member state assembly, and 18 of them were female. In Mizoram, a party must pass the midway point of 21 to take power.

India's Current AxisA complete sweep by the ZPM was predicted by My India Exit Poll, and the party is anticipated to win 28–35 seats in the 40-member assembly. The exit poll indicated that only 3–7 seats were expected to remain in the MNF.

According to the exit polls, the Congress, which was formerly a powerful force in Mizoram, was awarded just 2-4 seats.
