Digital Desk: Drama Festival The 31st National Rangghar Drama Festival is slated to be held at Barpeta from December 25 to 28. True, being an old and famous socio-cultural organization of Assam, the Barpeta Ranghar organized the fests. This year the festival takes place in parallel with the 100th anniversary of the Milan Mandir, which was founded in 1923.
The singing competition will open the festival on 25th December at 9 AM with flag hoisting by director Jyoti Prasad Das. Abinash Sharma, the renowned director, will pay his first tribute towards Srimat Nrisingha Prabhu at the evening oath-taking session along with felicitations for Hemanta Sharma, Chinmoy Dasa, and others. A souvenir in honor of the festival will be unveiled by the” Barpeta Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, and MP Bhubaneswar Kalita.
For four consecutive days, there would be shows by professional drama troupes of Assam and other places. Key highlights include:
Dec 25: ”Menaka based on Homen Borgohain’s Matsyagandha,” a play performed by Pakija Begum.
Dec 26: Milan Mandir Uthe Sani, a special session and play written by Abhimukh Nagaon and Maworat Nojowa Keitar Kahini by Natyacharcha Kendra Dergaon.
Dec 27: Comfort Women by Guwahati’s Abhigyanam and Atmavat by Kolkata’s Kalpana Tiljala.
Dec 28: Two plays showcased were ‘Jina Isi Ka Naam Hai’ by Act 24 from Mumbai and ‘The Zoo Story’ by Panchkochi from Delhi.
Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu will be the chief guest for the closing ceremony of the festival. Performers call all drama lovers to join this active cultural show.
