Between Sunday and Tuesday, a thunderstorm strong and hailstorm alongside heavy rain pounded several parts of Mizoram, causing chaos throughout the state.

Over 2,500 houses were damaged by thunderstorms and hailstorms, according to data from the state disaster management and rehabilitation department. These included several government buildings, 15 churches in five districts, 17 schools in five districts, 11 relief camps in Champhai and Saitual districts that housed internally displaced people from Manipur and refugees from Myanmar, 11 Anganwadi centers in Kolasib and Serchhip districts, and several schools.

Aizawl district was next, with 632 dwelling houses damaged, according to the report.

A 45-year-old lady died, according to officials, when a tree uprooted by a violent wind fell upon her on Monday.

While this was going on, state minister for disaster management and rehabilitation K. Sapdanga extended sympathy to the victims and announced that, even with the election model code of conduct in place, the government would still assist them financially and in kind (raw materials).

As per his statement, the state administration has applied for permission from the Election Commission, and Chief Minister Lalduhoma has personally notified the Central poll panel about the tragedy and the necessity of aiding the relatives of the deceased.

The minister said that relief efforts will be undertaken as the issue is a natural disaster and the Election Commission is well aware of the situation.
