Digital Desk: As Mizoram prepared for voting on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people, particularly youngsters and first-time voters, to take part in the electoral process and uphold the democratic celebration.
The Prime Minister stated in an 'X' post, "I urge the people of Mizoram to cast unprecedented numbers of votes. I especially urge young people and those who are voting for the first time to use their right to vote and support the celebration of democracy."
Earlier on the same day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also urged young people to cast votes in huge numbers. "I implore our sisters and brothers in Mizoram, especially the youth, to turn out and vote in large numbers. Every single vote will establish the groundwork for a developed and prosperous Mizoram, he stated on X.
Early in the Mizoram assembly elections, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga was unable to cast his vote due to a minor issue with an electronic voting machine. He stated, "As the machine was not working. I was waiting for some time. But since the machine could not work I stated that I would visit my constituency and I will vote after the morning meet."
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that his party would form the government and that there would not be a hung Assembly in Mizoram. "There won't be a hung Assembly. There will be an MNF administration. I'm completely confident in it," he stated.
Voting in the Mizoram Assembly elections started on Tuesday, and counting of votes is scheduled on December 3. Voting began from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
174 candidates are competing for election in Mizoram, which has 8,51,895 registered voters, of which 4,12,969 are men, 4,38,925 are women, and 1 is a third gender. 50,611 first-time voters between the ages of 18 and 19 and 4,973 service voters round out the total. Mizoram has a high electoral population (EP) ratio of 63.27 and a voter-sex ratio of 1,063.
There are 1,276 voting places in the state; 525 of them are in cities and 751 are in rural areas. In addition, 7,497 votes were cast via postal ballots at approved facilitation centres, while 2,058 votes were cast at home.
