Digital Desk: Prem Singh Tamang, the chief minister of Sikkim, gave construction employees a relief of Rs 10,000 each on Sunday in an effort to lessen their suffering following the flash flood in the Himalayan state.

He handed over the cash relief assistance to the construction workers at a local event following a two-minute silence in honour of those lost in the Sikkim flash flood, which claimed 38 lives and left 79 people missing.

The Sikkim Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (SBOCWWB) has 8,733 registered workers. These employees are eligible for cash assistance from the state government's hardship relief fund for Rs 10,000 each.

Following the chief minister's token payments to some labourers, the remaining beneficiaries will receive money transfers through the banking system, with Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) accounting for 80% of transfers and account payee checks for the remaining 20%.

While four additional labourers received financial aid through various programs, two children of labourers were given cash assistance for academic excellence.

CM in his brief speech stated that his government is committed to protecting workers' rights and that the state government recognizes the devotion, sacrifice, and hard work of all employees.

He urged the workers to register themselves with SBOCWWB to avail several benefits being offered by the state government.
