Digital Desk: The Central Government has approved the release of Rs 44.80 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to Sikkim for fiscal year 2023-24. The funds received will be utilised to provide help to people affected by flash floods.

Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, gave his consent. In addition, the Ministry of Home Affairs has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to assess the damage caused by the flash floods. Based on this evaluation, additional assistance will be approved.

The Teesta River saw a rise in flows on October 4 as a result of the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF), cloud burst, and flash floods, resulting in significant damage.

The Central Government is actively watching the situation and assisting the Sikkim Government. This assistance includes the deployment of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Air Force helicopters, and Army personnel, as well as technical teams from several ministries for infrastructure repair.
