Digital Desk: Due to the flood threat posed by Sikkim's Teesta River, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Sikkim and an orange signal for Assam and Meghalaya for the next 48 hours on October 4.
The Teesta River in Sikkim reached an all-time high after severe rainfall and thunderstorms pummelling portions of the state, causing catastrophic havoc as landslides and flooding engulfed the state.

In the ensuing disaster, around 25 army vehicles, parts of ATTC college, and a few army troops were washed away.
Notably, the Education Department has decided to close all government educational institutions until October 8.
