During the visit, Justice Gavai is scheduled to virtually inaugurate legal and medical camps across all districts of Manipur.
Digital Desk: A delegation team of five Supreme Court judges, led by Justice BR Gavai arrived in Imphal, Manipur on March 22, aiming to assess the legal and humanitarian situation in the state. After reaching Churachandpur, the delegation visited different relief camps housing people who were displaced due to the ethnic violence in the state.
The top delegation comprises Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, MM Sundresh, KV Vishwanathan, and N Kotishwar. They received warm welcome from the lawyers' fraternity of Manipur at the airport.
During the visit, Justice Gavai is scheduled to virtually inaugurate legal and medical camps across all districts of Manipur.
The delegation will also launch new legal aid clinics in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Ukhrul districts. Relief materials will be distributed to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The legal services camps will help to connect IDPs with government welfare programs, ensuring access to healthcare, pensions, and reconstruction of identity documents.
The delegation will also attend an event at the High Court of Manipur on Sunday.
Manipur's worsening humanitarian crisis due to the ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 3, 2023 led to the visit of the SC judges' delegation.
