Meghalaya Announces Plans for Cricket Stadium Amid Sports Infrastructure Diversification

Warjri also reiterated Meghalaya's commitment to hosting the National Games, despite facing delays

Digital Desk: In a move aimed at broadening its sports infrastructure and dispelling accusations of favouritism towards football, Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri revealed plans for the construction of a significant cricket stadium in Madan Kurkalang, Ri Bhoi district.

Addressing concerns regarding the government's sports priorities, Warjri stressed a comprehensive approach, highlighting forthcoming initiatives for sports such as swimming and tennis alongside cricket and football.

"The development of the cricket stadium is part of a broader strategy to enhance sports facilities across multiple disciplines," Warjri affirmed. He outlined a timeline of 2-3 months for the completion of the project.

Warjri also reiterated Meghalaya's commitment to hosting the National Games, despite facing delays. "Meghalaya's turn will come after two other states fulfil their hosting duties," he clarified, brushing aside doubts about the state's capacity to organise the prestigious event.

In response to allegations surrounding the 2023 Meghalaya Games and scepticism regarding the state's readiness for the National Games, Warjri remained steadfast. "Allegations serve as opportunities for improvement," he declared, emphasising the government's dedication to enhancing both its sporting infrastructure and organisational capabilities.
