Digital Desk: Mizoram capital is finally linked to India's railway network with the completion of the railway bridge near Sairang, opening the doors for improved connectivity and economic development.
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday, declared that the railway bridge near Sairang has been completed, and it is a big milestone for Mizoram. He posted a brief video of the achievement on X, where he said, "Another milestone in connecting Mizoram. Bridge near Sairang completed."
The railway line runs from thae Bairabi border in Assam to Sairang, near Aizawl. The whole project is slated to be commissioned in July. Till date, Rs. 7,714 crore has been incurred, and the total expenditure is limited to Rs. 8,215 crore.
K Vanlalvena, a Member of Parliament of the Rajya Sabha, informed the Parliament that Bairabi-Assam to Sairang railway link is nearing the completion and shortly will become functional. The new railway link would connect Aizawl into the railway system for the first time after independence and provide fresh trade and travel prospects.
The 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway line is divided into four segments: Bairabi-Hortoki, Hortoki-Kawnpui, Kawnpui-Mualkhang, and Mualkhang-Sairang. Completion of this railway project is anticipated to contribute immensely to the enhancement of Mizoram's connectivity, economic potential, and overall development.
