Newly elected MLAs of UPPL to meet Assam CM today

Guwahati: Trendsetting the records of the grand old party, BJP and its ally United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) won all five seats in the Assam bypolls. The results of the by-election got declared on Tuesday.

As per sources, all the newly-elected MLAs of UPPL will meet Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today. The meeting will take place at the government house at 09:00 am under the leadership of Pramod Boro.

BJP’s Sushanta Borgohain appeared triumphant over independent candidate Dhaijya Konwar in the Thowra seat by a margin of over 30,000 votes.

In Mariani, BJP candidate Rupjyoti Kurmi knocked out Congress candidate Luhit Konwar by a margin of more than 40,000 votes.

Gossaigon’s constituency observed an excellent show between UPPL’s Jiron Basumatary and Congress’ Jowel Tudu. Basumatary won the seat with a margin of 28,252. Moreover, UPPL’s Jolen Daimary beat independent candidate Ganesh Kachary by over 56,000 votes in Tamulpur.

BJP and its ally won all five seats in the Assam by-polls with a huge margin. The UPPL is in power in Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Council (BTC) in Assam and is in alliance with the BJP.

The win of the saffron party is a clear sign of the political establishment that has developed under the leadership of CM Sarma.

Votes counting for bypolls in the state began at around 8 am on Tuesday. The by-election took place in five constituencies, including Gossaigaon, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, Mariani, and Thowra.

Bharatiya Janata Party earlier stated that it has accepted to support the UPPL to build an executive body in Bodoland Territorial Council. Hence, the results of by-polls clearly showed the support directed by the saffron party towards its ally UPPL.

The United People’s Party Liberal is a political party established in Assam. The party has its headquarters in Kokrajhar Town. So, the party actively competed in the 2020 Bodoland Territorial Council Election under the presidency of council chief Pramod Boro.
