Digital Desk: Political comments flooded in shortly after the Finance Minister finished presenting the Union Budget for fiscal year 2022-23, with politicians expressing their discontent with the Budget.

Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala wrote, “#Budget2022 subsidies deducted, Hit the poor! In FY 2021-22 and current FY 2022-23 -

      • Food subsidy ₹ 2.86 lakh crore less than tax ₹ 2.06 lakh crore!

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed his concern over things the union budget left out. He was quoted as saying by news agency ANI, “Extremely disappointing, a damp squib! There seems to be absolutely nothing in this Budget. It's an astonishingly disappointing Budget. When you listen to the speech, no mention of MGNREGA, of Defence, of any other urgent priorities facing the public.”

Derek O'Brien, the head of the TMC, voiced similar sentiments on Twitter. He penned,“Diamonds are this government’s best friend. For the rest— farmers, middle class, daily earners, unemployed— this is a PM (Does Not) Care #Budget2022.”

Congressman Jairam Ramesh also took aim at the centre, pointing out its hypocrisy on climate change. He stated, "“On the one hand, the Budget talks of climate action and protecting the environment. On the other, it pushes ecologically disastrous river-linking projects. Rhetoric sounds nice. But actions matter more. On that front, the Modi govt is on a destructive path.”
