‘My daughter is alive’: Indrani Mukerjea urge CBI to look for Sheena Bora in Kashmir

Mumbai: In a startling development to the nation’s most sensational murder, Indrani Mukerjea, accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, has written to the director of the CBI stating that Sheena Bora is alive and in Kashmir.

Indrani Mukerjea mentioned in the letter that she recently came across a woman in the prison who claimed that she saw Sheena Bora in Kashmir.

Apart from the letter, she has also moved an application before the special CBI court, which is likely to come up for hearing soon.

Indrani Mukerjea is currently lodged in Byculla jail in Mumbai since her arrest in 2015 in the Sheena Bora murder case. Her bail application was rejected by the Bombay High Court last month and she is likely to approach the Supreme Court through her lawyer Sana Khan soon.

The Sheena Bora murder case came to light when Indrani Mukerjea’s driver Shyamvar Rai was caught with a gun. During his interrogation, he revealed that he was involved in another case and had allegedly witnessed a murder.

Shyamvar Rai told the Mumbai Police that Indrani Mukerjea had strangulated Sheena Bora, who she used to refer to as her sibling, in 2012.

Further investigation revealed that Sheena was Indrani's first-born daughter and had allegedly been blackmailing her mother to get her a house in Mumbai.

According to Mumbai Police and later the CBI, Indrani Mukerjea had abandoned two of her children, Sheena and Mikhail, and left them with her parents in Guwahati. Sheena got to know about her mother when she spotted a photograph of her in a magazine after she married media executive Peter Mukerjea.

Sheena Bora then allegedly followed her mother to Mumbai and Indrani introduced her as her sister, even to her husband Peter. However, she vanished in 2012.

After she vanished, Rahul Mukerjea (Peter’s son from his first marriage) tried to find out what had happened to her. Rahul and Sheena had fallen in love and lived together briefly before she disappeared. However, Rahul was told that Sheena wanted to build her own life abroad away from him as he was not working.

Finally, when the case came to light in 2015, the investigators alleged that Indrani had strangulated Sheena in Mumbai’s Bandra and then drove down to neighbouring Raigad district to dispose of her mortal remains. The investigating agencies even said they had found Sheena's remains. However, Indrani has refuted these claims.

After Indrani's arrest, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna was also arrested for allegedly having helped her with the murder and disposal of evidence. The CBI also arrested Peter Mukerjea for being part of the conspiracy; however, he was granted bail in 2020. Peter and Indrani Mukerjea got divorced during the trial.
