New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien criticizes the BJP led Central Government over rushing to pass a bill through Parliament at an average time of under seven minutes per bill. Mockingly, MP O’Brien asks if it was ‘making papri chat’ in the Parliament.
Moreover, putting allegation over the government, the Rajya Sabha MP said it is violating the sanctity of Parliament.
Sharing a graphic listing of bills passed through both houses of Parliament, Mr O’Brien wrote in his Twitter account, “In the first ten days, Modi-Shah rushed through and passed 12 Bills at an average time of under seven minutes per Bill Pouting face(See shocking chart down pointing backhand index)Passing legislation or making papri chaat!”
According to Mr O’Brien, the fastest bill to pass in the Parliament was the Coconut Development Board Bill, which pass in one minute, while the slowest was the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India Bill, which got passed in 14 minutes.
Earlier, in 2019, Mr O’Brien criticized the government for rushing bills and asked the government, “Are we delivering pizzas..” in connection to the ‘Triple Talaq’ Bill.
The monsoon session, which began on July 19, started with chaos and protest of the opposition parties over Farm laws and the Pegasus software. On Friday, proceedings in both houses were disrupted yet again with the issue of Farm Law.
Moreover, the opposition parties demand independent judicial investigation over the Pegasus software issue as it has attacked the fundamental rights of Indian citizens.
Last week Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked Congress by accusing it of not allowing Parliament to function properly. Moreover, PM Narendra Modi asked BJP MPs to expose Congress before the party and the media.
