Digital Desk: The Omicron cases across India are spreading quickly. Mumbai has become a hub for the surge of Omicron cases in the last few days. In this regard, authorities have imposed Section 144 in the state.

As per the latest sources, as many as 144 residents in Mumbai without any travel history overseas have been tested positive for Omicron on Thursday.

Out of 153 individuals who tested positive for Omicron infection in the city during the day, only 12 had international travel history, stated the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

According to the Maharashtra government's release, which was issued earlier, out of Omicron cases registered in the state, a large number of 190 were from Mumbai.

As per the BMC data, the tally of Omicron-infected Mumbai residents without a history of overseas travel increased to 160. The sum of Omicron cases in the city grew to 290.

Out of 141 Mumbai locals without travel history who tested positive to Omicron, the highest 21 are from the K-west ward, which comprises Andheri West, Juhu, and Versova, followed by the D ward that has Malabar Hill, Mahalaxmi, and Tardeo sites.

Additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani stated that the BMC would be sending 375 more samples for genome sequencing on Friday to review the Omicron variant's community reach.

The report for the news samples is expected to be out within four to five days. Community reach of the variant can be established only after the report arrives, Kakani added.

Around 93 residents who were tested positive for Omicron were fully vaccinated, and three had taken one dose of coronavirus vaccine. BMC stated that as many as 95 are asymptomatic, seven have mild signs, and 39 have gentle symptoms.

"Only seven patients, who are moderately symptomatic, have been hospitalized, but they are not on oxygen," a late-night BMC release stated.
