5-year-old girl raped, strangulated; body found hidden on the roof of her house

Digital Desk: A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped and strangulated to death by her captor in Madhya Pradesh’s Hoshangabad district, police said on Monday.

The girl’s body was found wrapped in a cloth on the roof of her house in Sohagpur area of Hoshangabad. Preliminary reports suggest that she was first raped and then strangulated to death.

The police have picked up a person for questioning, who lives in the victim’s neighbourhood. As per the reports, the family members of the victim found their child missing around 3 pm on Saturday.

After a long search around the village, the parents of the victim finally lodged a missing complaint at the Sohagpur Police station.

The police then launched a search operation of the minor girl. Later, the family members went up to the roof of their house to check and found the body there, an official said.

The police registered a case against the unidentified culprit under sections for rape and murder as well as relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The list is never ending considering the rise in rape cases across the nation, which has only just added the rage with the devils of the society, prowling among us.

The Hathras victim was only 19, while the Odisha rape victim was barely 3 years old. The list can go on, but then, has anything changed.

What is more shocking is that, in such cases, the minor girls are sexually abused and molested by someone they already know or someone who is known to their families.

According to the NCRB’s ‘Crime in India’ 2019 report, Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of crimes against women (59,853). Apart from this, UP also has the highest number of crimes against girl children under the POCSO Act and ranked second in terms of rapes committed.

Of all, the numbers are alarming and continue to rise in an unprecedented manner.
