The proposal to nominate Bhupendra Patel as the chief minister of Gujarat was overwhelmingly agreed upon at the newly-elected MLAs' meeting today at "Kamalam," according to a statement from the BJP.

Digital Desk: In a meeting held here on Saturday, the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs elected Bhupendra Patel to lead the legislative party, ensuring that he will serve as Gujarat's chief minister for a second consecutive term.

At the gathering held at the party's state headquarters, "Kamalam," Patel's name was unanimously proclaimed as the leader of the legislative party.

The proposal to nominate Bhupendra Patel as the chief minister of Gujarat was overwhelmingly agreed upon at the newly-elected MLAs' meeting today at "Kamalam," according to a statement from the BJP.

Following the BJP's overwhelming victory in the recently finished Assembly elections, Patel resigned from his position as chief minister on Friday along with the rest of his cabinet. This opened the door for the formation of a new government in the state.

As the meeting's central observers, senior BJP figures Rajnath Singh, B S Yediyurappa, and Arjun Munda were present.

In this year's election, Patel received 1.92 lakh more votes than the next closest candidate to win the Ghatlodia Assembly seat in the Ahmedabad district. He took over as chief minister from Vijay Rupani in September of last year.

On Thursday, the BJP secured a historic victory in Gujarat by winning 156 seats in the 182-member House, a significant increase from the 99 seats it had won in 2017.

The new government will be sworn in on December 12 in a ceremony attended by chief ministers from BJP-ruled states as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, according to previous announcements by the party.

Bhupendra Patel will remain the chief minister, according to Gujarat BJP leader C R Paatil, and the swearing-in ceremony for the new administration will take place on Monday at the Helipad Ground in Gandhinagar.
