"I assure you that the son of the soil, Mukul Sangma will be...": TMC’s Abhishek projects Mukul as CM candidate

He added that the TMC will not back down in its fight against the authoritarian forces...

Digital Desk: All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) general secretary MP Abhishek Banerjee made his first visit to the Garo Hills region as a part of a two-day visit, where he inaugurated the party's office in the Te'teng Aja locality in Tura.

The other TMC leaders who attended the event include Meghalaya in-charge Manas Ranjan Bhunia, state president Charles Pyngrop and opposition leader Mukul Sangma, and George Lyngdoh.

After the inauguration, Banerjee said, "This is something that I will love for the rest of my life. I appreciate the opportunity and the warm welcome you gave me to be here today. The TMC is here to support you all, and we are a party that is run by, for, and by the people."

During the conversation, Abhishek named former CM Mukul Sangma as the Chief Minister candidate for the party.

"There were dreams and expectations in the minds of the people that growth would occur. However, there has been nothing but disappointment. This proxy government, the NDA, has been nothing but the Meghalaya Disaster Alliance. If you want the change you want, you must all come forward and try to make it happen," he said.

He added that the TMC will not back down in its fight against the authoritarian forces that stated that he want to rule from Guwahati and Delhi.

"Like the sun rises in the east, India's future will begin on this same land this time. I invite everyone to join us, including students, young people, and people from all walks of life, to make sure that the corrupt, narcissistic NDA government is overthrown in the next three months and that a forward-thinking group of individuals (TMC) is in charge of ensuring the state's overall development," he said.

"We're here to provide you what you deserve. The only ones fighting the BJP are us. Many TMC leaders are rumoured to have defected, but if you check, it’s the other way round with BJP legislators jumping onboard the TMC ship," added Banerjee.

He used the example of Goa, where Congress claimed to be capable of defeating the BJP but was devastated.

"We cannot allow the same thing to occur here. We stated that every vote cast in favour of the Congress is also a vote for the BJP. To overcome these powers, you must vote for the two flowers. We are prepared to sacrifice our blood and sweat for you. It's a battle between Delhi and Meghalaya. It's a conflict between Delhi-based ivory tower dwellers who wish to denigrate Meghalaya. It's a battle for your self-respect and self-esteem," stated the AITC leader.

"People believe that Bengal will rule Meghalaya if the TMC wins the election. I can guarantee you that this is untrue. You can count on Meghalaya to rule the region, I assure you. The son of the soil (referring to Mukul Sangma) will be the chief minister, and he would not bow down to Delhi if he comes to power," Abhishek said.

Speaking about TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee's defiance, Abhishek stated that the entire BJP government was always aimed at her since she refused to bow down.

"She has served as a role model for the nation as a whole. She is being pursued by every agency, starting with the Election Commission. To stop her, they made every effort possible. They even attempted violence in the constituency from where she was running. She is the sole female in the nation. I have no doubt that Meghalaya and the rest of the nation can succeed if Bengal can. We must set the bar high," he said.

"Why is Meghalaya being treated consciously as a small district?" Meghalaya is not viewed by them as a state. Meghalaya is perceived as a district with two parliamentary seats. In order for the people to be treated fairly, it must be seen as a full-fledged state. It is a state with abundant resources and biological diversity. The name itself is a tribute to what it is, and this needs to be kept," the TMC leader stated.
