Digital Desk: The I.N.D.I.A alliance coalition of opposition parties in India is set to hold its first Coordination Committee meeting on September 13, according to reports. This significant meeting will take place at the residence of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, located in the national capital.
The I.N.D.I.A alliance has been making waves in Indian politics, and this upcoming meeting is expected to further solidify its strategy and agenda for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In addition to the Coordination Committee meeting, the I.N.D.I.A bloc's Campaign Committee is gearing up for its first session, scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, at the Milap Building.
The I.N.D.I.A alliance has been steadily expanding its ranks, with two new members recently joining its already impressive 19-member Campaign Committee. Tiruchi Siva of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Mehboob Beg of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) are the latest additions, bringing the total number of committee members to 21.
The Campaign Committee comprises a diverse group of leaders from various opposition parties across the country. Prominent members include Gurdeep Singh Sappal of the Indian National Congress (INC), Sanjay Jha of the Janata Dal (United) JD(U), Anil Desai of the Shiv Sena (SS), Sanjay Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and representatives from other regional and national parties such as the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Samajwadi Party (SP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), Communist Party of India (CPI), National Conference (NC), Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), All India Forward Bloc (AIFB), Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI(ML)), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Kerala Congress (Mani) (KC(M)), and a representative from Trinamool Congress (TMC), to be named later.
The I.N.D.I.A alliance has been actively working towards a united front to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. During their third meeting held in Maharashtra, alliance partners adopted resolutions to collectively participate in the elections and expressed their commitment to finalize seat-sharing arrangements in a spirit of cooperation.
A joint resolution from the alliance partners stated, "We, the I.N.D.I.A parties, hereby resolve to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections together as far as possible. Seat-sharing arrangements in different states will be initiated immediately and concluded at the earliest in a collaborative spirit of give-and-take."
The resolution also emphasized their plan to organize public rallies across the country to address pressing issues of public concern and importance.
The first two meetings of the I.N.D.I.A alliance were held in Patna on June 23 and Bengaluru on July 17-18, marking the coalition's determination to unite against the ruling party in the upcoming national elections. As the Coordination Committee prepares for its inaugural meeting in New Delhi, political observers are closely watching this formidable alliance's next moves on India's political chessboard.
