Congress joins tiranga celebration with a twist: Check here
Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, and other senior members of Congress changed their display photos to a picture of Nehru holding the tricolour.

Digital Desk: In an effort to celebrate the tricolour in preparation for India's 75th Independence Day, the Congress and a number of party officials changed their social media profile pictures on Wednesday. This happened a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested that others use "Tiranga" as their profile photo on social media.

Senior BJP officials quickly followed suit, and Congress joined the movement today, but with a twist. The display picture is of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, holding a tricolour.

The official Twitter handle of the the Congress party posted in Hindi, "The tricolor is in our hearts, it is in our veins as blood. On December 31, 1929, Pandit Nehru while hoisting the tricolor on the banks of river Ravi said, 'Now the tricolor has been hoisted, it should not be bowed'."

He added, "Let us all make this tricolor our identity, which gives the message of undivided unity of the country. Jai Hind"

Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, and other senior members of Congress changed their display photos to a picture of Nehru holding the tricolour.

Jairam Ramesh tweeted, "And that too in Khadi," in an apparent jab at the Centre's decision to allow the production and marketing of the tricolour made of polyester.

"We are placing the DP of our leader Nehru with the tricolour in his hands," he stated, in a further subtly directed jab at the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS). However, it doesn't appear like the Prime Minister's message reached it to his family. Will those who refused to raise the flag at their Nagpur headquarters for 52 years actually listen to the prime minister?

Senior party official Pawan Khera published screenshots of the RSS and its leader Mohan Bhagwat's profile pictures.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi stated that the government's 75th-anniversary celebration, known as "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav," is becoming a widespread movement. He invited people to use the image "Tiranga" as their social media profile pictures between August 2 and August 15.

"It is a special 2nd August today! At a time when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, our nation is all set for Har Ghar Tiranga, a collective movement to celebrate our tricolour. I have changed the DP on my social media pages and urge you all to do the same," he said in a tweet on Tuesday.
