'Leave tandoori chicken alone and...': TMC MP Mahua Moitra counters BJP leader's jibe against suspended MPs

A heated outcry followed the comments, in which TMC MP Sushmita Dev, who has since been suspended, asserted that it was a lie.

Digital Desk: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra slammed the BJP today, urging it to "leave tandoori chicken alone" and concentrate on other important matters. The comments follow BJP spokesman Shehzad Poonawalla's assertion that suspended opposition MPs consumed meat during their demonstration in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament.

Moitra tweeted on Saturday afternoon, "Urge BJP to leave Tandoori chicken alone and ponder over for serious damage to Gandhiji’s ideals." Non-violence-Bulldozer Raj; Truth-15 lakhs/Indian; Swaraj-End of Federalism; Simplicity-10 lakh suit."

A 50-hour relay dharna was started earlier this week by over two dozen MPs who were suspended during the first few days of the 2017 Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Three more MPs were suspended on July 28 for the rest of the week after AAP MP Sanjay Singh's suspension for "throwing paper on the chair" during House proceedings on Tuesday.

Poonawalla claimed that some of the suspended MPs stationed in front of the Gandhi statue had eaten chicken tandoori the day before, citing media sources. "Everyone is aware of Gandhi's steadfast stance against animal slaughter. A lot of people are inquiring as to whether this was a protest or a farce and picnic, "said he.

A heated outcry followed the comments, in which TMC MP Sushmita Dev, who has since been suspended, asserted that it was a lie.

"Due to inflation, the reputation of government officials, including ministers, has suffered. This misinformation is a result of their lack of a response. Every meal is consumed by RSS members and ministers behind closed doors. Don't comment on our meals, then. They find it intolerable that other MPs are bringing the food instead of us. They are terrified of this unity, " she replied.
