Guwahati: At a time when the healthcare workers are facing challenges in inoculation of the covid vaccine in several parts of the state among the villagers, especially to the adult population, centenarian Akoni Sonowal of Lakhimipathar village of Golaghat district has set an example of compliance.
The 107 old year granny from the Kachari Sonowal community has inoculated herself without any hesitation against coronavirus after the health department convinced her of the vaccine under the Prime Minister’s Har Ghar Dastak programme.

As per the health workers, the old granny was left behind from the mass vaccination programme until now due to the family member’s negligence and, to some extent, the healthcare staff’s inability to reach out to the far-flung area bordering Nagaland.
In this ripping age when anyone can hardly walk, she cooks food for her grandchildren said, Community health officer Karishma Bora.
“She warmly welcomed the health staff and allowed us to administer the vaccine.” Bora added.
The vaccine was administered to Akoni by Boby Devi on Friday. Her health status was monitored, but she did not suffer any side effects until Saturday evening.
Under the ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ programme, the health department officials ascertain the number of unvaccinated 18 plus citizens by verifying their identity with the voter list.
Notably, when the country has crossed the 100 crore vaccination mark in October, in the Lakhimpathar area, from where Akoni hails, about 5 per cent of the eligible 1,012 eligible voters remained unvaccinated till the start of the door to door vaccination campaign this week.
Akoni Sonowal has shown the world that you can also fulfil the responsibilities of a citizen of the country through a small act.
A small act of Akoni has set an example that now hopes to be followed by the vaccine-hesitant villagers, who every day, through its immature behaviour, create trouble for the health workers and the country’s development.
